571L :
Business Property Tax Statement |
| |
This form is required from the Orange County Assessor’s Office.
In our opinion it is one of the cruelest taxes. This tax
requires that for every piece of property, equipment, or
leasehold improvement your company has purchased
(Assets--not expensed items), you notify the Assessor once a
year, via this form, the Assessor calculates the Assets’
values (according to their own formula) then sends you a
bill for the tax expense. The reason why we think this is
the cruelest tax is because you are 1) paying taxes on top
of already having paid sales tax, and 2) paying tax on
Assets that are being depreciated.
The period ending cut off date for this form is December 31st of the prior
year and DUE, postmarked to the Assessor no later than May 7th.
(They would like it earlier and say the due date is actually
April 1st, but no penalties will incur if filed
BY May 7th).
You should receive this pre-printed form from the Assessor
around March of each year. The Assessor will have already
printed the prior years’ activity in their Assessor’s Use
Only column. Please make a copy of the form once you have
completed it, for your files so that each year you can
verify your numbers against those of the Assessor.

ANNUAL MINUTES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT :
 |
| |
This is a non-governmental notice from a company called
Corporation Compliance Company. This form is NOT required by
the government. However, it raises the issue of corporation
requirements. All corporations are required to hold an
annual stockholder meeting. At the meeting you must elect
the directors of the corporation who are responsible for the
operation of the corporation. You also need to discuss the
sale or transfer of assets, approving loans, approving
salaries, making any changes to the articles of corporation
or bylaws, and documenting major transaction. This isn’t as
complicated as it sounds, but the company sending this form
tries to simplify it into boxed questions. We recommend
checking with your attorney about what to include in
Shareholder and Director’s meetings and preparing minutes.
One of our services is helping clients facilitate the
meeting so that they can discuss “for the record,” business
matters that need to be captured in minutes and kept in the
corporate book. |
